Onshore Islands and Public Hubs Map
Outlined in blue below are the Islands, easily-isolated areas that result from interruptions in travel along Highway One.
Each turquoise wedge-shaped icon is a Public Hub.
A Public Hub offers at least one kind of resource, free of charge, to people who need help because of some kind of crisis that affects lots of people. It also uses information from Private Hubs to plan ahead and to help people help each other.
An INFORMATION BUBBLE pops up when you click on an icon or on a Public Hub’s name on the list. It shows how to reach the Hub and what the Hub has to offer.
KEY
In the Food: GROWING and PRESERVING category, “preservation” refers to canning, dehydrating, or otherwise making food keep without electricity.
In the WATER section,
"Will share if has extra" means "If we have more than 1/2 gallon of water per day for each person who works at our Hub, and more than 5 gallons of water per day for each person who lives at our Hub (or more than 30 if we grow all our own food), then we will share our extra with people who are on our Island and who each have under 2 gallons of water a day, to save lives."
"Has Off Grid water available" means "This Hub has access to drinking water even when the electrical grid is not working." This could be true for many reasons, such as: (a) your Hub has a hand or bicycle pump for your well, or (b) your Hub has a natural spring, a pond, or a rain catchment system on its land, with filters to clean the water, (c) your Hub is on City water, (d) your Hub has a windmill or solar-powered pump, or (e) your Hub has a backup generator.
"Has water access without fossil fuels" means "This Hub has drinking water even when no fossil fuel is being burned." It means your Hub is not depending on a fossil-fuel-burning generator or vehicle to get water from a store or well. It also means your Hub is reducing the risk of drought by helping the climate. It could be true for many reasons, such as: - if you use the electrical grid and are on the "100% renewables" plan at Sonoma Clean Power, or -(a), (b), or (d) above.
