15 tsunami hazard area maps showing trails leading to higher ground. These hyper-local maps cover the highest risk areas of the Mendocino County Coastline from Usal down to Anchor Bay.

If you feel an earthquake that lasts a long time or you know that a tsunami alert has been issued, immediately move to higher ground outside the yellow tsunami hazard area shown on our maps.

Yellow represents the tsunami hazard area using data from the 2021 California Geological Survey. Green areas represent higher ground. Blue is ocean or river. Green dotted lines are trails or roads which lead to higher ground.

The largest known earthquake-generated tsunami on the Ring of Fire took place on 1/27/1700. The 9.0 quake was located along the Cascadia Subduction Zone and generated a powerful tsunami surrounding the Pacific Rim. The graphic shows directed energy & travel times.
