Offline Maps For Smartphones or Tablets

Georeferenced maps contain a hidden grid of spatial coordinates. Simply put, for the first time in the history of maps you can see where you’re going AND where you are.

Our offline maps on your smartphone don’t rely on a cell or Wi-Fi connection. They use satellite GPS data to show your precise location on the map, so you always know where you are. (Tablets with a GPS chip can be used in place of a smartphone)

The best way to proceed, is to view this page on your computer or tablet, while setting up the Avenza app on your phone, so you can more easily study these instructions.

To view Hubs & Routes maps on your smartphone you’ll need to get the free Avenza app from the App store. 🔍 Search for the name AVENZA MAPS; their logo is above.

Download the Avenza Maps app, then open it.

Sign in if you have an Avenza account or choose “I’m new.” If you’re new, fill out the email and password information, then tap the long blue bar (register).

You may be prompted to go to your email (preferably on your tablet or computer) and find the Avenza confirmation. Open it and click on the highlighted link. Now you’re officially registered. Or, you may find that Avenza has registered you without this step.

On your phone, look for “store” on the bottom of the page and tap it.

You’ll now see the image on the left. Tap Mendocino County on the top blue bar or choose “use my location”. When the middle screen above appears, type the word “readiness” into the keyword search box, then tap the blue bar underneath it. When the three Mendocino County Readiness maps appear, tap on your chosen map image to download it.

After you’ve downloaded up to 3 maps, you can access them by tapping “my maps” on the bottom of the screen. When you’ve chosen a map from “my maps,” notice the blue circle is located exactly where you are! (providing that your physical location is within the boundaries of that particular map). Have fun trying out this useful mapping tool! but remember to keep your eyes on the road when driving.

Important note: the avenza app allows you to download 3 maps for free. 4 or more maps require a paid subscription. We recommend that you choose the 3 maps closest to your home.
