if Jack Peters Bridge is out—alternate route + Caltrans bridge widening updates

Caltrans is now widening and upgrading Jack Peters Creek Bridge. Work will continue through the fall of 2025. This project has a 1/2 mile long footprint with Highway 1 being moved eastward to accommodate the bridge’s additional 17’ width. Jack Peters Creek Bridge has always been unsafe and scary to walk across which will be remedied with the west side protected pedestrian walkway. One bike lane will also be added, but only on the west side, see picture below. Caltrans Jack Peters Creek Bridge Project PDF available here.

Caltrans began work on the Jack Peters Bridge project on 1/22/24. Expect traffic delays of up to 30 minutes. Consider bypassing the construction zone by using the Rd 408 to Rd 409 go-around shown on the map below.
